Flight patterns

On a flight to New York... and nobody is seated next to me so I have time and room to work on a collage constructed entirely from the Hemispheres in-flight magazine. I nearly always travel with a glue stick and burnishing tool. Since I don't have a sketchbook with me, I'm using a ripped out piece of the magazine as my support. I always wonder what the next traveller will think when they open the magazine and encounter such randomly placed holes! The photos show the collage in context of my travelling art studio and a detail from the collage -- high altitude creativity!

Rocky Mountain Collage

Janice_mcdonald_collage005_2The newly formed Rocky Mountain Collage Society is having their first annual members' show August 18 - September 5th at Mesa State College's Johnson Gallery in Grand Junction. Gayle Gerson contacted me about the show and graciously met me in Denver this past weekend to pick up my work and personally transfer it to Grand Junction. I'm pleased to be involved in the inaugural show. At left is "Undercurrent," one of the two pieces that I submitted. It is 10 x 10 x 1", collage on wood panel.

Journal page

Mcdonald71208Another page from the junk mail journal, circa 7.12.08, composed mostly of a subscription mailing offer for Midwest Living magazine -- several pieces sent in a plastic bag -- plenty of imagery to work with! A gluestick, some Tazo giant peach iced tea, and quiet equals a relaxing evening playing with paper and shape.
